A few words about my classes...
I teach a variety of courses at Art Center, but they all have one thing in common - they are all digital. The driving educational goal I have set for all of my courses is to teach my students how to use a computer as a creative design tool. Of course, knowing how to use a computer does not replace good design skills, but it does provide an amazing medium for designers to manifest their visual ideas.
With over 15 years of teaching experience behind me, I always look forward to something new each semester. I am constantly learning new software, developing new courses, and adding new material to all of my classes. I work hard to make the content I offer to my students to be the most up-to date, innovative and interesting as I can.
The software I use in my classes is dependent on the type of artwork my students are creating, so it varies for each class. My current weapon of choice is Adobe’s Creative Suite. The lessons I teach in my classes enable students to explore the technical aspect of each software in a creative way through a variety of design projects. The projects involve creative skills like digital illustration, digital imaging, typography, graphic layout and more. Each class has a different goal and direction for it’s students.
The major issue facing all of my students is what role the computer will play in their lives as designers. The design industry is becoming more computer literate, and it is almost to the point of being computer dependent. Having a strong digital repertoire is necessary for survival in a competitive job market. I do my best to provide a creative outlet for my students to explore and develop their digital talent.
