Course Description:
Computer Graphics ROP is a 2 semester course.  This class meets the A-G entrance requirement for the UC/CSU system, as well as the graduation requirement for SCUSD.  Students must be at least 16 years old, or a current Junior or Senior. Students under the age of 16 require administrative approval. Computer Graphics is a course designed  for students interested in the Visual Communications field. This course emphasizes the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.   This class is designed to further develop personal expression in the visual arts through aesthetic problem solving, enhancing existing digital media skills, and the development of new computer competencies.  Work outside of class will be required.  This may include: research of a particular artist, style or period of art; preparation of an art project or portfolio; and, reading, writing or critical viewing of art work.

Course Objectives:
This course will provide students with a basic understanding of Computer Graphics and give them the skills to create computer generated art and design . The main objective of the course is for students to acquire the skills to be able to function competently in the field of visual communications.  Students will be introduced to both hardware and software applications used for rendering and manipulating digital images.  This will be accomplished through classroom lecture and hands-on lab experience and exercises. The primary applications used in this is  class are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign. While it is expected that students gain competency in the hardware and software, it is not the sole objective. The main objective of the class is for students to gain a firm understanding of the design process through theory and application. As a class we will look at the computer, digital camera, scanner,  and software applications as tools for creating computer generated graphics.

Course Requirements:
Students are required to come to class everyday ready to work.  Students will create a number of projects that will allow them to experience the design process from hand drawn rough drafts through final computer generated designs.

Grading:
There is a “4 project window” that applies to all major projects in this class. Meaning, you may turn in the current assignment, and  the three previous, with no penalty.  However, once an assignment has passed the “4 project window” you may not turn it in at all. Computer projects may only be completed in class. Students with 95% or above at the end of the semester will not be required to take the final.

For example: If we are on assignment 5, you may turn in assignments 5, 4, 3 & 2 with no penalty at all.  However, assignments  1 is no longer worth any points.  There is no partial credit for half finished projects. You must complete the entire project to receive credit.

Grade Scale:
The percentage scale is based upon the total  points for all projects over the course of the semester.
100 -90%  = A    89-80% = B                    79-70% = C                    69-60% = D                    59-0% = F

Attendance:
Students are expected to come to class, on time, ready to work each day.  If a student is tardy without a valid note/pass they will be required to serve detention.  Detention will be served before 8:15 am in the morning, at the beginning of the lunch period, or immediately after school. Five unexcused tardies may result in Saturday School.
