It’s cold again, Brrr! I’ve moved Crockett’s Reel down to a slip in Flag Harbor for the remainder of February and March. Keeping the boat in the area means a little longer drive, but close proximity to some excellent fishing. I fished with Bill and Rich this morning. It was a little slower than it has been the past couple of weeks, but there are still some nice fish around. They’re turning on and off and persistence is the key to success.
Colder weather is back and water temperatures have fallen to 40 degrees in the mid-Bay. We had to break
ice to get out of the marina this morning as air temps had fallen to the low 20s. Thanks to the lack of wind and bright sunshine, we stayed pretty warm and managed to land some pretty good fish.
I also fished alone Friday evening and landed a few nice fish. I hooked up a monster, but lost him due to a reel malfunction. These big fish will certainly test your equipment. This time of year I do a lot more retying, hook-sharpening, rod repair, and reel maintenance. It’s a pain sometimes, but the reward of landing these big fish makes it all worthwhile.
