Dervin Gilbert
Welcome... Spring ‘08 !!!
Since April ‘07 I’ve been in in five plays (about to start my next), five films (of varying lengths and budgets), nine commercials (one national, one international), eight industrials and a smattering of print work. I’m doing studio acting workouts and physically training (teaching Spinning, strength training, running, walking...). After a ten year layoff from commercial acting I am focusing now on character work... and its happening!
I’ve just wrapped Romeo & Juliet with Theater South Carolina. Iambic pentameter... in all its glory. Way awesome experience as Lord Capulet. I’m ready for more (yes and Shakespeare!). Husqvarna has now used me in an international commercial, a print shoot and now a video on its website (thanks Rich and Barbara!). What a pleasure it is to be used for being yourself and your innate but crafted acting abilities. I’ll be beginning Three Musketeers for the SC Shakespeare Co. very shortly (at Finley Park outdoors!)
The first trailer from The Real Petersons (shot in Savannah, Ga., May ’07) is out and I have the link here if you’d like to view it ( http://www.livingpetersonmovie.com/trailer.html ). The release should be sometime in the late Spring. I don’t have a reel yet of my new work from this past eleven months, but you can view a few monologues of me here if you’d like. As soon as I have clips from these recent projects I’ll post them. I’ve been meeting the most wonderful people on these productions who are incredibly passionate about video, filmmaking and stage production. All have been a new found joy for me to be around. I have thoroughly enjoyed developing the characters I have portrayed. In this brief period I have been: Bob Ewell- To Kill a Mockingbird, the Houston Ticketman in Trip to Bountiful, Bobcock the Australian millionaire in There Goes the Bride, Lord Capulet in Romeo & Juliet, Martin Peterson- a white husband of the deep South who’s adopted a black child in the 1950’s- The Real Peterson, a zany Barney Fife-esque Deputy in the ghoul movie- DamnitDixieDan, Husqvarna’s “virtual store Dealer”, a plethora of daddies and more. Cool , cool stretches... good guys and bad guys. Next up is The Three Musketeers, and two small films (along with a slew of shorts). Can’t wait!
I’m represented by Harvest Talent and Millie Lewis Talent in SC, Wilhemina-Evolution M & T in NC and Houghton Talent in Ga. My basic acting info is now also on the 800Casting website (https://talents.800casting.com/Static/Home.aspx ) as well as the LACasting website ( http://www.lacasting.com/dervingilbert ). Lemme hear from you by just clicking the Email Me stamp below right. I’ll listen out for you and hope you’ll have a brilliant Spring!
