“Expressionist, colourful & infectiously humorous - art to lift the spirits - you must see this”
Derek’s Auntie Betty
...so went the 1999 invitation to Derek McQueen’s first solo show in a major gallery.

This show, ‘Barker’s Pool, Bath Nights and Other Serious Matters’, set a sales record for Sheffield Cupola Gallery and was remarkable for the fact that Derek was 66 years old, had worked as an engineer in industry for 40 years and graduated from Art School at the age of 65.

We hope you enjoy this show case of Derek’s work. There are many images in the gallery together with details of Derek’s life, his important work with children plus television and radio credits on the about page.

Also on the about page, don’t miss ‘Prince Charles Joining Wire and Vienna’, where the Prince comes close to buying one of Derek’s paintings. Also read about the war and boiled beetroot in, ‘Early Years under the Table and a Career’.

The review has newspaper and magazine reviews of Derek’s past shows including his second highly successful Cupola Gallery solo show ‘A Child Could Do It’, in May 2003.

If you are interested in buying any of Derek’s work, the
work for sale pages have details of currently available  paintings.
