Pluto and Galactic Center

There has been much written and speculated about the meaning of Pluto’s current alignment with Galactic Center.  Just Google “Pluto and Galactic Center” and you’ll find a plethora of articles, some more informative than others.  It definitely sounds like something astrologically important. What with Pluto’s recent “demotion” from planetary status, it seems nice and timely compensation to have it in this spotlighted position.   As Pluto makes its second hit to Galactic Center on July 17th, I hope to offer some potential suggestions as to the meaning of this event, and how it might play out on the collective and individual levels.  But as always, I view astrology as a science of observation.  I am open to learning the effects as this transit unfolds before us, while at the same time I am offering theories as to its potential meaning.

The archetypal territory of Pluto has to do with transformation, forces of death and rebirth, and the use and principle of “power” in one’s life.  It also has to do with the place where we hold our “shadow” material, our fears, and that which needs to be healed in order to empower ourselves.  For further reading on Pluto, I suggest:  The Book of Pluto, by Steven Forrest, Healing Pluto Problems, by Donna Cunningham, and Alive and Well with Pluto, by Bil Tierney.

Galactic Center, while titled quite ominously, is just what it sounds like:  it’s the point in space that is the center of the Milky Way Galaxy, from our perspective.  From the Earth’s viewpoint, that center resides at 26 Degrees, 27 Minutes Sagittarius.  Pluto has been moving around, and on, that point over the past year or so.  As for the timeframe, the orb of the transit began in early 2006, and extends through 2008.  Pluto moves slowly, so there is a wide orb of influence as to how long this event is effecting us.  But, there are three exact passes, or “hits,” which occur within that timeframe as Pluto moves forward and backward (retrograde).  The three “hits” are on the following dates:

December 30, 2006
July 17, 2007
November 29, 2007

I believe that this alignment might serve as an amplification of the Plutonian archetype, as if someone has just raised the volume on it.  While I have not seen much evidence yet as to how this transit is playing out on the collective level, I have seen a larger than normal incidence of “Plutonian” themes arising in my client population.  I would also share that, in my own life,  2007 seems a sort of gateway year in terms of facing down some previous fears, and empowering me to sleigh some of the dragons that have kept me from living at my highest vibration.  I would encourage you to consider the presence of the themes of empowerment, facing the shadow, and letting go as they relate to your life in the present.  I would enjoy hearing your feedback as to whether you have seen a prominence of these themes in your life.

This astrological event is going to trigger your chart even more, however, if it is making a hard aspect to any of your planets or angles:  27 degrees of Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini, and Virgo (and 3 degrees on either side) are all affected greatly by both the transit of Pluto and the alignment with Galactic Center.  If you suspect that you have planets at these degrees, and want to confirm this, you may email me at:  dena@denadecastro.com.  I would also welcome any comments on this topic you might want to share in the comment section at the bottom of this newsletter.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Podcast Update for July

I have completed three new episodes since the writing of my last newsletter. The first is my interview with Leisa ReFalo of The Tarot Connection Podcast.  We discuss what questions are best for tarot readings, versus those that work better for astrology readings.  The second is a discussion with Mirae Grant, Intuitive Reader.  Mirae and I work toward defining the words “intuitive,” “clairvoyant,” and “psychic.”  We also discussed the benefits and uses of intuitive readings, and how these contrast and connect with astrology readings.  The third new episode is a discussion with astrologer Ed Welsh, regarding astrology as a potential “Model of the Psyche.”  We discussed the astrological model as it compares to the models offered by Freud and Jung; Ed brings an educational background in philosophy to bear on the discussion.

Coming up this month, I am very excited to welcome astrologer Jodie Forrest to the Podcast.  Jodie is both a non-fiction and fiction author, and also holds her own Astrology mentorship program.  The interview will focus upon her recently published book, The Ascendant.  This episode will be available in mid-July.

I am greatly enjoying the process of developing the podcast, and am learning so much through the valuable contributions of my guests and listeners.
