Respect the Saints of God

and Examine the Word of God

Respect the Saints of God

In pursuing the purpose of fellowship, YOS will learn to respect the saints of God. In this context, the word “saints” takes on a very broad and inclusive meaning. “Saints” are those who are “set apart” to be holy and committed to God. Therefore, “saints” include the prophets and priests and kings of Scripture, the saints of our rich Christian tradition, holy men and women of other faith traditions, and the Christians of the Body of Christ, especially those within our own parish (Church of Our Saviour) and ourselves.

Respect involves presence, withholding judgment, compassion, empathy, humility, patience, listening, trusting, silence and ahimsa. “Gandhi based his life work on ahimsa (non-violence). By ahimsa,” Bede Griffiths explains, “he meant far more than a negative ideal, but rather the basic respect for every person as an image of God, in whom the Universal Spirit dwells.”

Respecting the saints of God fulfills the purpose of fellowship as we learn to love and share with one another as the Body of Christ while also fulfilling the purpose of discipleship as we learn from so great a cloud of witnesses.

YOS ministries offer Sunday Morning Prayer (9 AM - 10 AM) in which the junior high and senior high learn about the heroes and heroines of Scripture (with particular interest in our Saviour), the saints of Christian tradition, as well as holy men and women from other faith traditions. By agreeing on the above ideals of respect, YOS learn to respect one another as they share their highs, their lows, and their prayer requests in a safe and sacred space.

Also, Movie Nights  (6 PM - 9 PM) offer a space for relaxed fellowship, food, fun and games. On the first Friday of every month, YOS are invited to enjoy one another’s company, pizza and a movie.
