What really matters- Participating in Household Chores. Our toddlers seem to have a natural instinct to help out. This is a wonderful impulse that needs to be nurtured. Even though chores usually take longer with Whitney’s help, when at all possible, we would invite her into the task of completing a household chore like unloading the dishwasher.

How to put it into practice-

Tuning In- As discussed, our toddlers will reveal their interest in our daily chores and you can creatively entice them now by modeling and involving them.

Bridging-

Define a clear and simple role for them to get started. As you will see in the video to the right entitled “Hand to mom”, Whitney is given the specific task of handing items in the dishwasher to her mommy. To start the simpler the role the better; as you will see here, even this simple task would include some additional licks of Whitney’s tongue and force an item to go back in the sink for a re-washing. But it is all worth it for Whitney’s development.
