Flamingos

Tuesday found us at Floreana Island. The morning excursion was to Cormorant point. Contrary to the name, there were no Cormorants there. There were, however, flamingos. Since this is the dry season, the brackish lagoon they were at was low, so there were only a few flamingos there. The rest had gone off to one of the larger lagoons for food.

After our hike, we were able to snorkle off the landing beach. I had decided to use my video camera with my new underwater housing, which I was unable to try out before the trip. There were many fish swimming near the rocks and feeding on the algae growing on them. A sea lion swam under me, but I didn’t quite point the camera in the right direction. Remember to practice kids!

The afternoon found us in a shallow containing small islands made of pillow lava. swimming in the shallows were some black tip sharks, rays, and one green turtle.
