Shirley came together in 2000 when Dave moved next door to Kevin. They started with some acoustic duo work and soon found Ron Chane because all of their kids were in the same class. That made for some rockin’ Christmas gigs in kindergarten. After adding Ron on bass the next natural progression was to grab Matt Beard who was the drummer with Kevin’s other band The Catapillars. Mark Luchini was added in 2006 bringing electric guitar for those stadium gigs we play. Mark fills in the missing notes with great leads and riffs not to mention another level of vocal ability which has Shirley is now known for..
We have been together for more than 9 years in one form or another and we have a respectable list of tunes to draw from. We enjoy playing new songs for the first time in front of a live audience. This is necessary for a band that does not believe in practice but it keeps us on our toes.
Lucky, we have a chemistry on stage that transcends our ability to excel as musicians and we are just plain fun. Shirley has an energy not to mention a knack for picking a great play list of songs that people (in our particular demographic) love.
We love playing music no matter who plays with who even if it’s not in our own band. That’s why you may see any combination of the fab 5 playing at any gig but we are always Don’t Call Me Shirley.
From Dylan, Warren Zevon, and Van Morrison, to Barenaked Ladies, Blues Traveler, and Tom Petty, Shirley plays a wide variety of artists that everyone knows and loves. Their style of having fun on stage and with the audience provides a unique blend of entertainment and fine music. They can be seen regularly at The Landing in Marblehead, The Rock Pond in Georgetown, The Grog in Newburyport and other clubs around the North Shore.
