About the Orchestras at Fossil Ridge High School…

Concert Orchestra

Concert Orchestra is an all-string orchestra, primarily intended for sophomore students.  Covering the orchestral literature from Baroque to Contemporary, this ensemble focuses on refining the fundamentals of playing and performance while examining works written specifically for strings.  This course is the pre-requisite for Symphony Orchestra unless waived by the director.

Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra is the main string ensemble at Fossil Ridge High School, primarily open to select juniors and seniors (and some sophomores by audition).  This ensemble focuses on technique as well as interpretation through works of the Baroque through Contemporary periods.  Students in Symphony Orchestra are challenged musically to become better players and equipped to become better leaders within their instrument sections as well as in their musical groups outside of class.  In addition to the four scheduled concerts during the school year, this ensemble plays several community concerts each year outside of the school day.
