I have been hand-building ceramic forms at Happs Pottery since 2001, mostly using slabs but also using extrusions
Many things are possible with clay and the struggle to make good, interesting forms drives the evolution and development of my work.
Ideas spring unbidden into my mind. I do not know where they come from. They certainly have connections to forms that I am fascinated by …. seedpods, boat forms, the movement of water, the landscape. However, the first issue is to find or invent the techniques that will allow me to create the forms that I have in mind.
These techniques then lead to the development of new forms as the possibilities not previously seen emerge. The endless loop of developing a technique for a particular form and then seeing the wonderful vista of potential that is exposed in the use of that technique is extraordinarily exciting.
