generic header
First, if you do not have files you can bring, no problem, as in most cases we will be shooting during classes, or I will provide image files you can use.
We all know that larger file sizes permit bigger prints, smaller file sizes can limit print size. However, original images SHOULD NOT be upsized in Photoshop to bring to the program. Just bring the file with you.
Scans
TIFF file format for scans.
Scans in RGB, even for B&W.
Figures for file size are "ballpark", and assume 8-bit files. (Scans in 16 bit will double file size specified here.)
- 35mm - at least 50MB for 8-bit file, bigger is better!
- 6x45/6x6/6x7 should be 80-100MB or larger
- 4x5 sheet film 150-200MB+ (drum scan preferred)
Images captured via digital/DSLR camera
RAW, TIFF, or Photoshop/PSD format, @ 300ppi in camera file size, not upsized.
JPEGs are strongly discouraged, as they are usually unsuitable for making fine art enlargements.
If bringing a "finished" file, also bring original RAW file or scan if possible.
If you have a "finished file" that includes Photoshop layers, bring it with all layers intact, not flattened.
Adobe 98 or ProPhoto color space preferred for finished images.
If your finished image file is in the sRGB color space, do NOT convert it or "upgrade" to another color space - just bring it with you.
Best regards,
David
