"The Book & the Flower"

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Mundi, music of and for the world, has announced the release date for their sophomore release: "The Book & The Flower" - Thursday, November 2.  The full length album, a follow-up to 2004's "Apple Howling," is a result of the talent of five extraordinary musicians, just back from a tour of Spain.

The occasion will be celebrated with a release event on the grounds of Barr Mansion, a lovingly restored 1898 home, in the Artisan Ballroom - a fitting space, built from the timbers of an ancient barn. Tickets are $12 and will include tapas and a performance by Mundi.  CDs will be available for a special $10 price - tickets will go on sale in early October via www.mundiensemble.com. Doors open at 7:00 pm - performance starts at 7:30.

MUNDI
Classical guitar, violin, cello, bass, and an arsenal of percussion (both traditional and found), Mundi masterfully creates a sound that is rich, celebratory, dynamic, and deeply emotive.  The quintet infuses their old world compositions with the energy and vitality of their diverse influences - Paganini to pop, rock to Rachmaninoff, 'Flea' to folk. The truth is, this ensemble's vision is old and new, classical and contemporary.

THE BOOK & THE FLOWER
Although they are still putting the finishing touches on the CD, "The Book & the Flower" is a recording the members of Mundi are already speaking of with pride and excitement.  Mundi promises music of celebration and lament within the CD. Given their recent tour, two Spanish pieces are on the track list,  and also "the Alphonse Suite" - a series of three cantigas from the court of Spanish King Alphonse X. Following their first record, a series of collaborations and events in and around Austin, and a Spanish tour, fans and critics are ready for more.

Of their 2004 release, "Apple Howling," fans far and near wrote "an amazing combination of ancient and modern musical elements," "it is wonderful to hear these historical songs brought back to life," and "Absolutely beautiful! A gem of a CD." Conductor of the Austin Symphony, Maestro Peter Bay says of the album "It is a wonderful hour's journey through the ages."

BARR MANSION: ARTISAN BALLROOM
An Eastlake Victorian home built in 1898, the Barr Mansion and surrounding grounds are a very appropriate setting for this Mundi milestone. The performance will take place in the Artisan Ballroom, constructed from the timbers of a barn circa the 1770s.  The front facade, soaring over 40 feet, is composed entirely of delicate glass and allows the beauty of the inside to be a part of the glory of the gardens outside.
