David, here is what i have on this family.
James Howell b. approx 1767 moved from the Grayson County Va area to Ashe
County. He had these children: Henry, Catherine, Mehala, Susy, Hanna. No
information on his wife.
Henry Howell was his son and he married Nancy Blackburn in 1821.They had the
following children: Solomon (my ancestor), James Jackson, William Jeremiah,
George, Elizabeth, Nancy, and Leah.
George Howell was born around 1820 by my records but 1817 is possible. What I
have on him is sketchy, but here goes: He was probably was married more than
once. I believe his first wife might have been Elizabeth and I have no record
of children in this marriage. He married 2ndly Jane Adams, and I believe that
she had been married before to an Adams. I belive this because of a child in
their household in census records that is named Wiley Adams. I think they had
at least two children; Mary who married a Duncan??, and John whom I have no
information
on.
I have detailed information on Solomon's family, fairly detailed information on
Jackson and Nancy's family, some information on Jeremiah (he was shot as a
deserter in the Civil War.
Hopefully this is the family you are researching. If you have information on
george on down until today i would like to have it and will share the other
information i have also.

These pages of this bible were found at the bottom of a box of very old photographs from the Hornbeck family. Many photos are of people not identifiable. Apparently Jane Howell, her sister Ann, and perhaps even their mother Gertrude did not know of this bible. No one knew of the ancestors of Oscar Hornbeck that are described in these pages.
An unusual aspect of the bible is that Isaac Smith recorded the month and day of birth of his children and their children, he did not record the year, although he did record his age at the time! Most of the years given are deduced from the birthdate of Oscar Hornbeck and the age of Isaac. In addition, he had mostly female offspring and Isaac with one exception, did not identify the male spouse, leaving a number of holes, including the fact that it appears that both his daughter and granddaughter married Hornbecks.

I am Herbert Chambers. I live in Appomattox, Va. My mother, Minnie Lou Bertie
Blackburn's father was a George Washington Blackburn. They lived in Ashe Co.
NC. He was born 10/23/1863. He married Amanda Jane (Mandy?) Barker on
9/13/1888. She died 3/1/56. I have a photo of Solomon and Lois Barker that my
mother had. She wrote their names on the back of the photo. I have never been
able to make a direct connection to them.
My paternal grandfather was Solomon Chambers, who was married to Tarosea
Howell. I have seen her name spelled several ways.
Do you think that we are talking about the same George W. Blackburn?
