Conditions getting better and better...
Monday, 17 March 2008
The cold temperatures have kept the huge quantities of new snow in place and it’s now stabilising very nicely. Things are really looking good for climbing conditions in the near future up here. The

A fantastic day: high pressure settled in on Tuesday. I’m working on the ‘Snow and Ice’ course for Jagged Globe - that involves climbing with two experienced climbers for five days. This climb was a

Great winter climbing conditions today on Stob Coire Nan Lochain in Glencoe: sunshine, some firm snow, all the wobbly bits on this route firmly frozen in place, and big smiles from  Claire and Noelle.

Here’s my blog... It’s a bit of a temporary measure while i try to make time to create my website properly. It has however been quite good fun to write over the last couple of months and I’ve been very pleasantly surprised by the feedback and by the number of people visiting. As this is the page that links directly from my ‘site in construction’ climbingcourses.com, I’ll summarise what I provide:

Rock climbing: from beginnings to advanced - from first steps on small easy climbs to teaching leading, and technical rope-work on long multi-pitch climbs.

Winter climbing: again, from beginners to advanced - from a solid foundation in winter mountaineering skills, to ice and mixed winter climbing. Be guided, learn as you climb and perhaps learn to lead them yourselves.

Navigation and mountain skills: a detailed look at the things that everyone who ventures into the hills should know.

Scrambling: learn the necessary rope-work skills to do it yourself, or come along and be guided on an enjoyable mountaineering adventure while moving freely over easy rock. These days often combine well with some easy rock climbing to add more spice to the journey.

All group sizes can be catered for, but If the group size requires more staff I will hire only my most trusted and experienced colleagues.

I’m flexible regarding venues; and have indeed worked in many parts of the world, but bear in mind that I live in Kendal, so the Lake District, Yorkshire, Peak District and North Wales are easiest to arrange for rock climbing and summer mountaineering.

Please feel free to email me with questions, comments or a bit of banter...

Thanks for visiting
