David was nominated for the Tony Award for Costume Design, and he and Timothy Bird were nominated for the Tony Award for Best Set Design, for SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE at the Roundabout Theatre, New York. They also won the Outer Critics Circle Award for ‘Outstanding Set Design (Play or Musical)’ and David was nominated for ‘Outstanding Costume Design (Play or Musical)’ along with an ‘Outstanding Revival of a Musical’ nomination. He and Timothy Bird won the Olivier Award and the Evening Standard Best Design Awards, as well as the Critics Circle Award, for its productions at the Wyndhams Theatre and the Menier Chocolate Factory.
Current shows include DADDY LONG LEGS on tour in the U.S., directed by John Caird, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at the Walter Kerr Theatre, New York and THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW on tour in Europe. He was set designer on LA CAGE AUX FOLLES which played recently at the Menier Chocolate Factory and was also designer of set, costumes (and the plant!) on their LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS which also transferred to the West End and is currently touring the UK.
