Parents, I have prepared an overview describing why

the ETHS Music takes trips. Many parents - especially

of students new to our program - want to know more

about the value of such a venture. They also want to know exactly what their student might be doing on the trip. A detailed trip itinerary for the Nashville/Memphis Trip will be posted here as soon as the final details are arranged. Until then, read below and if you have any further questions, please contact me via email or by phone at: 847.424.7853.

WHAT WILL THE STUDENTS EXPERIENCE ON A BAND TRIP?

A band trip....

  1. ....Gives the students an opportunity to work with leading educators and clinicians in performance workshops, often held on college campuses - this year at the Blair School of Music on the campus of Vanderbilt University.

  2. ....Provides students with performances appropriate for the area we visit. In Nashville, all concert band students will experience the thrill of producing their own recording in a professional recording studio setting. In addition the Jazz Ensemble is slated to perform at The Wild Horse Saloon.

  3. ....Exposes students to other peoples, places, and regional flavors of the places we go. This year, Nashville and Memphis will give students the chance to experience Southern life, great southern cuisine, and some of the most interesting influences to popular music over the past century, from Nashville’s thriving recording industry, to the country music mecca of the Grand Ole Opry.  They will hear a classical music performance of Vaughan Williams -  Symphony No. 2 in G major "A London Symphony" and William Walton -  Henry V: A Shakespeare Scenario by the Nashville Symphony. In Memphis, students will explore Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley - the King of Rock and Roll, and shop and dine on the famous Beale Street.

  4. ....offers social time for band members to get to know one another even better. This year, students will have some quality “road trip” time on deluxe coaches, room together in quality hotel accommodations, and spend free time together shopping, touring, and swimming. Band students are a very friendly bunch who all share a common love of music, and band trips help new students to the program to get to know everyone better, and it helps older students celebrate their friendships and perform music in a new setting.

  5. ....lets others know about Evanston Township HS and the wonderful students we have. Band members understand the importance of being musical “ambassadors” wherever we may travel. The process of preparing to perform for people outside of our local area raises the bar for our students and gives them some extra incentive to improve their musical skills. In Nashville, playing in the same studio as hundreds of famous music legends will be exciting, and preparing for a professionally produced CD recording will encourage students to be at their very best.
