BIO:
Dr. Fodor is in his 36th year in Illinois schools, having spent the last twenty-one years at ETHS teaching Instrumental Music, Jazz Bands & Combos, Percussion, Seminar in American Music, and Electronic Music.
Prior to teaching at ETHS, Dr. Fodor was Asst. Director of Bands at Western Illinois University (1984-88). He began his career in Herscher, Illinois teaching 5-12 instrumental music from 1976-82. During his time in Herscher, the band program was 3-time Illinois State Sweepstakes champions, 2-time Illinois State marching band champions, and 1982 MBA National Marching Band Champions.
Dr. Fodor is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Illinois Music Educators Association, and Vice President of the Secondary General Music Division. In addition to his work with the IMEA, Dr. Fodor is a member and former Illinois state officer of the Percussive Arts Society and is a past President of the International Association of Jazz Educators Illinois Unit. He is currently a reviewer of new jazz music and materials for the Instrumentalist Magazine.
He holds a Ph. D. in Music Education from Northwestern University (1998), an M. A. in Percussion Performance from Western Illinois University (1984), and a B. S. in Music Education from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (1976). He is a member of the Phi Mu Alpha and Phi Beta Mu Musical Fraternities, and an active performer in the Chicagoland area and clinician across the country.
Since joining the ETHS faculty in 1990, Dr. Fodor has had many exceptional musical performances with ETHS students, including concert band performances at Symphony Center in 2003 and 2012, jazz ensemble shows in Germany and Austria, and jazz combo performances in Japan, Switzerland, and Italy. Fodor and his students have performed at the IAJE International Conference twice, and for the Midwest Clinic twice. Distinctive alumni of ETHS during Fodor’s years include trumpeters David Young, performer, composer, and producer; Ethan Bensdorf, New York Philharmonic Assistant Trumpet; and David Cohen, Principal with the Tucson Symphony (beginning in Oct. 2010). Many other students have continued with music, including Will Blades, jazz organist in the Northwest region of the country, and many more.
Dr. Fodor will bring his tenure at ETHS to a close in June of 2013, after twenty-two years of service. He plans on staying plenty busy in retirement, as a clinician, performer, and composer across the area, state, and country.
