Respite (res’pit) definition: A pause or interval,
as from work or duty.

‘Respite’ is a 1984
C&C 35 MkIII sailboat

Acquired by David and Anne Bannister in 2003, ‘Respite’ is a 25-year-old classic from C&C, then one of North America’s most innovative and successful sailboat designers and builders.

We have cruised her throughout Lake Huron, its North Channel and northern Lake Michigan as far as Green Bay, Wisconsin. Respite’s centerboard draft of only 4’2” has been a real asset during times of low water levels on the Great Lakes. Grand Bend Yacht Club is our base.

In these pages you’ll find photos of our voyages and some of the beautiful scenery we have encountered along the way. Through these travels, David has found reference for many paintings and photographs, which can be found at his fine art website.

Latest Update- June 29, 2009

We had the Grand Bend 30 on Saturday, to Kettle Point and back (Brian Hall trimming the gennaker at left). A nice breeze, but we finished at the back of the fleet this time. That’s the end of spring racing.

Yesterday we turned the boat back into cruising mode with dodger, bimini, etc. Get the latest info on my new Sailing Blog page.
