Comboni Missionaries

"The missionary will have to understand that he is a stone hid under the earth, which will perhaps never come to light, but which will become part of the foundations of something much greater."
                                                                                                          ~ St. Daniel Comboni

The Comboni Missionaries or MCCJ, which are the first letters in Latin of “Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus” (our full name ~ Missionarii Comboniani Cordis Jesu) is a congregation of priests, brothers, sisters and lay missionaries ~ we have the Eucharist as our daily strength and center of our life and live in communities that are about:

MISSION ~ our charism is first evangelization, going where there is no church, building-up the Christian community until we can give a church to the diocese with local clergy. We then move on and start over again!

There is much adventure in the missions and the situation can often be dramatic, it is not always easy ~ you will be stretched ~ challenged to grow and change... and you will discover the living God in new and surprising ways!

The characteristics of this missionary service is summed up in the four following points: “ad gentes” because we go out to peoples, areas and situations where evangelization has not yet been completed. We are missionaries “ ad pauperes” because preference is given to the poorest and most abandoned from the point of view of faith and the social dimension. We are missionaries “ad extra” because we are men of God who go outside (exodus) our personal, familiar, geographical, cultural, social and religious frontiers. We are missionaries “ad vitam” because we make a life-long consecration to God for the missions.

So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?”  He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority.  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you: and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1: 6-8
