With sister-in-law Grace Slick, Darby Slick founded the San Francisco band the Great Society.  This band blended jazz, blues, Indian music and rock and roll.  In this band, Darby Slick wrote Somebody to Love, and Grace Slick wrote White Rabbit.  Grace Slick took these songs with her when she joined the (later) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Jefferson Airplane.  Darby Slick studied Indian music for many years with Maestro Ali Akbar Khan and eventually invented a new kind of fretless guitar which his son Jor Slick designed for him.
