Algebra

As we begin to look at algebra in 6th grade, it is important to see where we are at. I think it is a good idea to review one-step equations formally and then move into solving two-step equations. If you click here you can see a lesson I create using Kidspiration 3 and Jing to address this.
We also need to spend quality time having students learn how to translate verbal expressions and word problems into algebraic expressions and equations. One would think that you can approach it as a reading teacher teaches reading and as a language teacher teaches language. Immerse the students and provide the basics (understanding what the phrases mean) to give them a solid understanding.
