ALL ABOARD!

Bike Trains are simply a group of kids riding together with adult supervision, picking up kids at their homes or meet-up points on the way to School and back.

~Bike Trains help build a great sense of community~

They help facilitate easy communication for kids with each other, in their    own neighborhoods, on the way to and from school.

It makes it easy for parents (who don't have to worry about where to park the car) to connect with teachers, staff, and other parents at school as they chat around the bike rack.

~Bike Trains provide safety and supervision~

Parent "conductors" will guide each bike train to school and back to provide supervision and safety. We will develop safe train routes to pick up and drop off the kids and encourage safe biking practice.

~Bike Trains encourage kids to be healthy~

Bike riding is GREAT exercise and these days with kids being en-larded with our high fructose corn syrup lifestyle, every bit of exercise is important. As kids learn to be confident cyclists they can form healthy habits that will last their whole life long.

~Bike Trains are good for the environment~

Each car that doesn't need to make the trip to the rather crowded school helps keep our community healthy and green house gas out of our atmosphere.
~Bike Trains are JUST PLAIN FUN~

What could be more fun than joining your friends and neighbors in bringing the bike train into school and then home again? Come on... If your child would like to come on the bike train or you can volunteer any time at all please.....JOIN US

Routes and Pickup Times

We will be running the Bike Trains on Fridays to start with.  We will add more days as we have interest but this will get us started.

We have the first Route set up!  You can check it out here at the Maps and Routes page.  Each train will get to school by 8:20 am and pickups will start no earlier than 7:40 am.  We will meet to ride home  in front of the school at 3:15 and should have the last kids dropped off by about 3:45.

Keep posted here and the Facebook page for updates on routes including pickup times and maps.  We will also be posting the routes at the school.

The Rules...:)

All bikes must have reflectors and lights (if it's dark out).

All riders must wear helmets.

The Bike Train will have a Conductor in the front and a Caboose in the back.  Please ride between them.

Everyone will need to stop, look and see ALL ways before crossing a street and use appropriate hand signals (follow the Conductor's example).

This is a Bike Train, not a bike race.  We will need to stay together.  Please don't ride at a faster or slower pace than the other riders.  If you need to stop or help let an adult know and we will ALL wait.

Kick-off Date

Kick-off Date is Earth Day - Friday, April 22nd 2011.  There will be some fun surprises in store!

Keep tuned for further updates:-)
