Enhanced Survival
Goldline Queens
Our Queens are strong, gentle, producers of large honey crops. The strengths of PBA Goldline bees are:
• Strong survivors
• High honey producers
• Varroa mite resistant
• Tracheal mite resistant
• Brood disease resistant
• Large genetic diversity
• Gentle
• High brood viability
• Pulled from the nucs after 21 days
• Mated in African free North Georgia
The Goldline Bee is not an Italian, a Russian or from any single specific race or line of bee. It is a cross of many. It does represent one of the largest if not the largest and therefore most diverse line of bees available anywhere. We collected initial breeders from any and all credible sources to include feral, New World Carnolian, Russian, purebred Italians (Australia), English Buckfast (Australia), Carnolian (Old and New world), Caucasion, German Black and many other private and commercial sources. The bottom line is we gathered any bee that had potential and included it in our genetic tool box. Please read about our breeding program for more information.
To maintain Goldline genetic diversity, we graft from many different Goldline breeder queens to produce the queens you will receive. These are the same queens we use for our own production colonies. The queen mothers are from the proven survivors that are the top honey producers. What good is a bee if it can survive but not produce a surplus of honey? Remember the SMR? It is not unusual for us to graft from over several hundred breeder queens in a single season. This is very time consuming, meticulous and expensive but is absolutely required for you to get the best. Ask other producers how many breeders they graft from.
Every one of our queens goes through a 3 point quality control check process. The first check is for queen performance. For the queen to pass this first inspection she must be laying solid patterns, and have at least one frame of solid sealed brood. The second check is for any obvious physical deformity or trouble. The third and final is condition of the queens upon shipping.
Even though color is not a selection criteria for this strong survivor, the PBA Goldline bee is mostly light in color. About 25% of the queens shipped will be dark in color. You will see about the same ratio with the worker bees. This is an indicator of the fairly large gene pool we are maintaining. PBA Gold is the result of an intensive 12-year breeding program with an emphasis on Survival under heavy disease pressure while producing large honey crops.
