I’ve always loved comedy. It can be a well written book, a slapstick farce or a solid stand-up set. I love comedy. Some young boys like to tinker on things, take them apart and see how they work. I do that with comedy. You might call this website my 1969 Ford Mercury Cougar project car.

Now to some people, dissecting comedy is like having sex. When it works, it works and sometimes we don’t know why so why bother. But upon closer inspection you can figure out what makes us laugh.

I started performing standup in the 1990s and quickly discovered the show in the back was often a lot funnier than what was happening on stage. I started to collect stories of memorable road trips and hell gigs. I listened to comedy theory, sometimes good and  sometimes pure BS. I branched out and soon began hunting down comedy history. I wanted to know what worked on TV, movies and in books and what didn’t and why.

Several years ago I discussed doing a show about comedy with Story Salon founder Beverly Mickins. Always a good scout and better friend, she let me launch a show then called Laugh Lines. It was a place for stand ups to tell stories about writing and performing comedy. Little by little, the show branched out to include all forms of comedy and found great success. So now I want to share it with you.

Every month or so I will pod cast an episode of Comedy Callback and during those weeks in between shows, I will be interviewing all sorts of people on the business of being funny. I’ll also be blogging and letting you know where you can find the funny.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions please drop me an ‘e’ at comedycallback@gmail.com.

And remember, life is short - so laugh hard!
