Cool Earth

Here at canoetokelau we love trees; well, you have to if you want to build vaka- a really effective and long lasting use of wood that can make for fantastic carbon neutral transport. These days, sailing canoes are few and far between, and most vaka have a dirty great outboard strapped to them in Polynesia. so, all the more reason to like cool earth, a charity set up to secure rainforest to be used sustainably by locals.

Under no illusions that buying or securing an acre of rainforest makes up for 101 western lifestyle eco sins, we did it anyway, and we’re in good company. It’s a small step in the right direction.

Don’t do it just to assuage your conscience, but go on, do sign up and help hold on to one of our planet’s greatest resources- we like those trees standing!

You can see our little patch at: LAT: -5.7790252025292 LON: -61.072277825339 and yes, you’re right, that’s Ataninga in Brazil- well done!

(Google Earth is a smart place to see Ataninga)
