Wow, what a great coincidence....I'm in Seattle right now, and I'm sitting here in a room at the Camlin Hotel. I'll see you guys tomorrow night, looking forward to the Seattle merriment.

Last night a few list denizens gathered at the Cloud Room bar, in the Camlin Hotel in downtown Seattle for a brief gathering.
In attendance: Roger Ellingson, Daryl Spadaccini, Hazen Arnold and delegate of the Texas contingent - Karl Strand, and of course yours truly.
Overall gassers outnumbered diesel-heads 4:1.
Review - Its safe to say that a good time was had by all in our couple hours of drinking and merriment. Karl provided good anecdotal reporting of many of the more famous Texas and Colorado listers, and we all joked about the folks that we all know only through cyberspace. Most of the time was spent talking about car maintenance, car care and upcoming car shows. A little time was spent bashing folks who were not there to defend themselves (and who shall remain nameless...).
Roger E. provided insight on the teething pains MB's having with his new C320. Daryl extolled the long term reliability and incredibly low cost-per-mile of his 600,000+ mile W113 250SL. Hazen reveled in tales of his version of the "black hole" another 300TE-4matic Kiwala Edition, Karl held forth on the virtues of his venerable 240D fleet plus diesels in general and I threw in a couple of quips about the speed and power of the M119 V-8 in my 400E.
We managed to burn through 2 1/2 hours in no time! We ended the evening with a walk through inspection of Roger's 2001 C320 (man what a pretty car), and then drove off on our separate ways.
Next time we need to meet in the daytime so we can check out each other's cars and we'll have to get a bigger crowd, too.
Looking forward to the next gathering!

Kevin, Hazen, Roger, Jim, Mark, Daryl, et al. - Looks like I'm still on to be in Seattle next week - do you guys still want to meet at the Cloud Room (top floor bar at the Camlin Hotel) on Tuesday night for refreshments and discussion of MB's and life in general?
Karl Strand
(01 Jul 03):
Greetings MB fans,
Tonight there will be a gathering of MB enthusiasts associated with this fine list at The Cloud Room, the rooftop lounge in the Camlin Hotel, in downtown Seattle.
Members of the list and their guests are all welcome!
Current plans are to meet at 5:00ish and we will be building the anticipation until the arrival of none other than Hazen Arnold at 7:00pm sharp. As an incentive Hazen has offered to buy drinks for any listers from out of state or from another country!
Directions:
Members are encouraged to park in the pay lot adjoining the Camlin on the south and west sides of the building so that we may enjoy a each other's cars in the long hours of daylight we are blessed with here in the Northwest summer.
Hope to see you all there!

This morning's Seattle newspaper carried an article covering last nights closing forever of The Cloud Room by the new owners in preparation for a complete revamp of the old barn. Oops, I meant hotel.
Gotta find a new watering hole.

(01 Jul 03):
Good News and Bad,
The Cloud Room is no longer open, nor is the Camlin itself. I got there at 10 minutes to 7 and found a lonely Jim Madden in his 240D looking somewhat forlorn. He'd been there since 6. The lone security guard had no messages from other members as to where they might have gone, so Jim and I looked in Von's and the Pink Door to no avail. I left a message at Kevin K's, talked briefly with Rolf, and with Steve Nervig, both at home. Bummer!
When herding cats, or anything else, it is up to the herder to make SURE the corral is open. I goofed, big time and I apologize. Put's me in mind of a quote. "Where are my people? I must find them, for I am their leader!"
Hazen "Hang Dog" Arnold
P.S. The good news is I got 2 more miles per gallon changing from Mobil 1 15/50 to the new 0W40!
P.P.S. Jim and I retreated to Kirkland and I bought dinner. Assuaged the guilt somewhat.
(02 Jul 03):
Hazen - I didn't know the end would come so soon. Long live the memory of the Cloud Room & Camlin. I'm not much of a drinker, and don't hang out at bars much, but the Cloud Room was definitely one of the coolest bars that I've ever been to, had a lot of character. And as a hotel guest they had great blueberry pancakes in the morning, included in the room price for a whopping $89 per night, the best cheap downtown hotel I've ever patronized regularly. I've been going there for three years, and have always had the same waiter every morning for breakfast, amazing loyalty in a business where people don't usually stay too long. I'm guessing that he's now jobless, which makes me sad.
I guess the search is on for a new Seattle list-gathering location....
