SV Dadidoc - Paint Project
SV Dadidoc - Paint Project
See below pictures of SV Dadidoc in its current state. Had several areas of paint peeling from the hull topsides. I was referred to a gentleman cruiser by the name of Greg Boggs, and he is retired, lives on his boat, and has agreed to help me paint Dadidoc using Awlgrip and roll and tip ( he has painted close to 20 boats using Awlgrip).
DIAGNOSIS: It appears that a previous owner had “crazing” of the gelcoat that was telescoping from midships aft. Spider “cracks” showed through the finish down to what appears to be a barrier coat that was applied over the gelcoat when this was discovered. There is also evidence of repairs done in this area.
One year following purchase, need to get the boat painted !
See how the hull from midships forward is in pretty good shape. However, there is evidence of previous repairs done from midshps aft.
From midships back, there really was no chemical bond between finish coat, primer and the base gelcoat/barrier coat. We started sanding, and then move to using a glass scraper, and finish/primer was easily scrapped away in many areas, some harder than others.
There was no chemical bond with the paint.
