CHANGES TO THE Catechetical Programs

for 2008-2009

Dear Families of St. Simon Parish,

Thank you for your remarkable effort in making the 2007-08 catechetical year a success.  We now focus our attention on the coming year. As you know, it is our mission to serve your faith formation needs.  Our team is continually evaluating how we can better serve you.

Based on the surveys that were held in each catechetical program in late spring 2008 we have made some changes for the coming year.  Over 80% of CCM families responded with a need to move the CCM program to Sundays. The surveys also resulted in a strong opinion to hold Adult Faith Formation sessions at the same time as children’s catechetical formation.  We also heard strong opinions about integrating Confirmation prep into our existing EDGE program.

We have heard your voice. After much prayer and discussions it has been decided that CCM will make the move to Sundays beginning September 2008.

We are offering this preliminary glance at what the new Sunday program will look like. More detailed information will follow:

•Preschool of Religion (PSR) for ages 3 through kindergarten will hold 2 sessions each Sunday: the first at 9:00am and the second at 10:15am.

•Children’s Catechetical Ministry (CCM) for grades 1-5 will be held from 10:15-11:15am on Sundays (we recognize that this is during the 10:45am Mass)

•Adult Spiritual Formation/Fellowship will be held from 10:15-11:15am on the same Sundays as PSR/CCM sessions.

•EDGE will now include 6th graders.  EDGE will meet on Sunday evenings following the 5:00pm LIFETEEN Mass.

•LIFETEEN (high school) will continue to meet on Sunday evenings.

•8th graders will also make a change as follows: 

1. September through December – attend regular EDGE sessions on Sunday evenings.

2. January through April – Confirmation sessions will take the place of the regularly scheduled EDGE sessions (same time/schedule as EDGE).

3. May through June they will “graduate” to the LIFETEEN program.
