Download a file that allows you to see the areas we visited (without Mr. Johnson) on a virtual world. You need to have a newer computer with Google Earth installed and a fast internet connection.

Notes on Google Earth Tours

Google Earth Tours require a fast computer and a broadband internet connection. There are several steps that can be taken to the improve performance of a tour.

Run the tour a second time. Because much of the data is temporary stored on your computer, running a tour a second time can result in a much smoother trip.

Increase Google Earth’s memory and disk cache sizes.

Be sure to download the newest version of Google Earth.

Click the arrow under the pictures on the left to launch a new page with our TWOMJ Gallery. The photos are ordered newest to oldest, and can be viewed full size and as a slide show.

The kids’ teacher challenges the students to make life an adventure, and send in proof.   

Viewing TWOMJ on Google Earth

You only have to download one file to view all of the locations we’ve visited. Click on a download link below and a Google Earth KMZ file will be downloaded to your computer.

There are two download links. TWOMJ with pictures will open a matching photo when a place link or place mark is selected. The photo can by closed by clicking the X near the top of the photo window. TWOMJ no pictures does not contain the links to the photos, only Google Earth imagery will appear on the screen.

A Windows computer might add a .zip extension to the downloaded file. This will require unzipping the file which will convert the file back to a KMZ or a KML file. A Macintosh should download the KMZ file correctly. Opening the KMZ/KML file will start Google Earth, and the new files will appear in the Temporary Places folder in Google Earth’s content list.

The downloaded files are organized into folders. Inside each folder are the appropriate place mark links, and a tour link. Clicking the tour link will “fly” you to all of the places listed in the folder, giving you a virtual adventure without Mr. Johnson.

Be sure to select the check mark boxes to the left of the links you want to see displayed.

As of October 30, 2009, there are seven folders.

Central California Cruising: June, 2009. A trip up the Carrizo Plain through Gilroy, ending up in Santa Cruz.

Caribbean Adventure: January, 2009. A Western Caribbean cruise with fantastic shore excursions.

Inland Empire Adventure: October, 2008. Believe it or not, there are plenty of things to see to the east.

Opera House Tour: July, 2007. A cross California road trip from 282 feet below sea level to 11053 above.

Random Los Angeles Area: Places we’ve visited in the Los Angeles area.

Random California: Roaming a little further.

Random International: Only one stop at this point, hopefully there will be more soon.
