Citychurch was building what will be the greatest addition to our park across the street; a 50 foot tall cross attached to our climbing tower. Chad Clement, who heads up the climbing program at Citychurch, designed the cross to not only be attached to the tower, but also to be a functioning climbing feature. The children and young adults that use the climbing tower can climb the entire face including the arms, giving them the opportunity to contemplate the very reason Citychurch is in existence.

In the above photo, a young girl climbs the cross during our Monday afternoon program.

For more pics click here.

Donnie

During the regular Monday after-school program, we took the kids across the street to enjoy Citychurch’s Tol Ware Park. The kids were able to climb on the the recently expanded climbing tower, play basketball, dig in the sand box, and of course, enjoy the first snow-cones of the season. Citychurch is definitely “kid heaven”. The above photo is of my daughter Audrey Ann enjoying a cherry sno-cone in the park.

For more pics click here.

Donnie

Last year, our youth helped plant the Citychurch in Houston, Pastored by Ed Small. The youth worked in the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and led a Vacation Bible School. The picture above is of the “Bass Monster”. Citychurch Amarillo uses these sound systems to promote Christian Hip-hop in the neighborhoods. The sound systems are built this way so that they can be removed from the vans in order to protect them from theft.

Here are some more pics.

Donnie

I have learned to be sensitive to those moments when the heart is soft and the environment is friendly. During our last mission trip to Houston, we ended our week of work by driving the extra 45 miles south to Galveston beach to watch the Sun set and let the kids unwind.
It was funny to watch the kids approach the water. One young man choked the first time he tasted salt water because he thought the salty taste was due to pollution. They all got wet and everybody was coated in a solid film of sand.
We ended our evening by worshiping the Lord on the beach as the last rays of Sunlight dipped below the horizon. I will never forget that night. I don’t think they will either. It’s the kind of night that turns knuckle-heads into disciples; church groups into family.

Here are some more pics.

Donnie
