About Shock Waves
As my family discovered, when trauma strikes it reaches far beyond the traumatized individual, leaving many in its wake. I wanted to write the book I wish I had access to decades ago as I struggled to support my husband, Michael, a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. In addition to our story, I gathered stories of others affected by traumas (such as 9/11, the Oklahoma City bombing, sudden death and serious illness, rape, and child abuse), and advice from experts to create a practical guide for those who love someone suffering from trauma or PTSD. I want others who face the challenges trauma can hold to know they are not alone. Shock Waves is a story of healing and healers. Most important, it is a story of hope.

About Me
I’ve written extensively about addiction and recovery, parenting, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I co-facilitate a caregivers’ support group, and Michael and I often speak to audiences about the effects of trauma and war in our continuing involvement with veterans and veterans issues. I’ve received awards for poetry, creative nonfiction, essays, and newspaper articles. I’ve written several books and have published hundreds of articles, columns, and guest editorials in newspapers, magazines, and literary journals.
