a few months ago, i was contacted by uk sci-fi author justina robson (google her). in her newest novel, there is a band called the no-shows, and she felt my song “doom” was a perfect vehicle to promote both the band and her book. so, the result is a brand new version of my old homage to the classic first person shooter, doom.
i was just chatting with my old pal marc the other day about how all the new games don’t attain the level that the original doom game did (at least for us). sure, the new games have great graphics and all, but it’s all so predictable. doom, although to today’s standards might look ridiculous, scared the ba-jesus out of us. it was hours and hours of fun.
so, the moral of this tale? kids, when your parents tell you to stop wasting your time with videos games because it will “amount to nothing”, just tell them that one day, you’ll write a song about the game, eventually make you money on mp3.com (and in turn, buy yourself a pair of new shoes), and then end up on a promotional cd with a sci-fi novel! ha ha to the world!
wait, i climaxed too soon. a few notes about the remake. the original sampled drum track is still there (you’ll hear it especially in the last verse). with the exception of the synth bass line and the strings, almost everything else was rerecorded. the mix and mastering was done by the amazing mr. þorvaldur bjarni þorvaldsson (who mixed/mastered the “iceland” cd). that’s it...enjoy.
