Pottery by Connie Wagner
I use stoneware and porcelain to create functional and decorative pieces. All of my work is fired in gas, wood or raku kilns at the Canyon Creek Pottery in Alturas, California. I am particularly interested in shino glazes, application techniques, and the unpredictability of the different kiln environments.
One of my special interests is making ceramic kimono. A few years ago a friend of mine began a vintage kimono business and imported these lovely garments from Japan. I became fascinated with this garment and began working on kimono shapes using clay. The incredible fabrics and textures provide me with an endless source of inspiration. The classic beauty and shape of the kimono is the perfect pallet for the application of artistic Japanese images.
