Pottery by Connie Wagner
I use stoneware and porcelain to create functional and decorative pieces. All of my work is fired in gas, wood or raku kilns at the Canyon Creek Pottery in Alturas, California. Shino glazes and the unpredictability of the kiln environment stimulate my creativity and enthusiasm for the next firing.
I have a special interest is making ceramic kimonos. Years ago a friend began a vintage kimono business (www.kyotokimono.com) and imported these lovely garments from Japan. I became fascinated with how they are worn and how they are used in interior decor. The fabrics and their textures provide an endless source of inspiration, and the clay allows me to combine these designs with the classic Japanese shape of the kimono. The glazes and magic of the kiln produce unique decorative pieces.
