The afternoon light streaming through Ahihi Cove as it has for centuries, the rural Hawaiian atmosphere, and the calm reflections on the water are timeless elements of Hawaii. People come and go on a much smaller scale than the larger wheels turning along this rural sanctuary, but it takes another perspective to notice it. After a career of over 500 paintings, I know when a piece is heading to another level. Braided Kiawes is going to be distinctly different than anything I’ve previously painted. 

This post marks the end of the heavy lifting in Braided Kiawes. All the major forms are in place. The remainder of the work will be the close detail, which is where a painting gets its voice.
