Cumbrian BLue(s) at Rörstrand
19 August 2009
As part of my PhD research into printed landscape patterns on ceramics, I spent several weeks in 2006 in the Museum at Rörstrand (Lidköping Sweden) sorting and printing from the engraving archives in the basement. My discoveries of old tableware patterns on copper plates - stamped with the names of engravers from Stoke on Tent dating back to the 1840‘s evidenced an historical link between Rörstrand and England.
We’re reviving the English connection shortly in the exhibition Cumbrian Blue(s) at Rörstrand. My contemporary artwork referencing Swedish and English printed landscape patterns will be shown at the Rörstrand Museum, Lidköping from August 29 to October 30, together with related objects from the archive. The work will also infiltrate the historical display and include one of my ‘life size’ printed ceramic trees on porcelain tiling.
