Cumbrian Blue(s)
I’ve been a freelance artist for over twenty five years. Writing, curating and commissioned work form part of my practice alongside exhibiting and other projects. In recent years my research activity has meant an irregular but ongoing association with Universities in a variety of contexts; fellowships, residencies and some guest teaching. I‘ve just finished my Phd thesis (MIRIAD, Manchester Metropolitan University) elements of will subsequently evolve into a new book. A significant element of the research presentation was my exhibition in 2007 at the MMU Special Collections Gallery.
I often spend periods of time away from my home in Cumbria England, running courses on print and ceramics, working on projects and exhibitions. So in light of all this, my blog is an erratic affair, affected by my activity at any particular time. My web site is still undergoing its major update ... trying to keep it simple so that it won’t need re-designing every few months. Anyway its here -

My work involves the digital manipulation of established vocabularies of printed motif, pattern and image from industrial ceramic archives and engraved book illustration. Cloning and collaging these, sometimes with photographic elements, I create contemporary artworks in ceramic and printed form.
