Summer Institute
Each year, CSUWP hosts an intensive, four-week summer institute on the CSU campus in Fort Collins. The institute is designed for experienced K-12 educators from all disciplines who are committed to teaching writing. The teachers selected each year to take part in activities designed to help them develop as writers, instructional leaders, and teacher researchers. Beyond the summer institute, they benefit from a lifetime of professional development opportunities as members of the larger CSUWP professional community. Contact Beth Lewis or Jason Malone for more information about the summer institute.
Student Writing Workshops
In the summer, we offer writing workshops for elementary, middle school, and high school students on the CSU campus. During the workshops, students participate in writing groups and creative writing exercises and work with published authors. At the end of the week, students publish their best pieces in anthologies and participate in readings of their work.
Summer Workshops for Teachers
We offer weeklong workshops summer that are open to K-16 teachers in any content area. These highly interactive workshops feature research-based literacy strategies that teachers can implement immediately in their classrooms. Participants will gain new teaching ideas, learn how to assess writing, share their writing in small groups, discuss selected readings, and develop lessons using their own curriculum and texts.
Continuity Programs for CSUWP Members
Continuity programs are designed to help CSUWP members stay connected to the CSUWP community beyond the summer institute. These programs include special events like writing retreats and marathons, summer potlucks and patio dining, and the annual CSUWP birthday party as well as ongoing groups like writing groups, teacher research groups, and the Advanced Institute. Every November, a group of CSUWP teachers attends the National Writing Project conference.
