Swiss Mountain Village
Swiss Mountain Village
Progress has been made
Friday, February 13, 2009
Well it is Friday the 13th and so I am updating the website before something superstitious happens.
The mountain village has been a methodical if not a slow process which has been worth the effort to the overall affect of the scene and the layout. You know I am not trying to pursue a particular place or scene in Switzerland just a general affect is what I am after. I believe it has been accomplished, at least for my purposes.
The structures for the scene were produced from kits, and or scratch built as needed. Let me give a run down on the structures. Plastic kits from Kibri were used for the two houses, Church and mountain cafe. Thomas Oswald kits were used for the cattle scale and the outside bakers oven. Again I have to mention that the MBZ Oswald kits are spectacular in their affect. Built from Scratch are the Castle and the Barn next to the cattle scale. The fence was produced from setting individual posts and using strand wire for the fencing. That was fairly easy and gave a great look to the scene.
For the greening up process I used several different methods and products. Most notable are products from HEKI, Silflor and Scenic Express. When things called for a nice thick field of wild grass the HEKI grass mats are great; basically they are 14” x 8” mats of fiber with an overabundance if static material attached. There is so much material that a lot of the static grass comes off in the container which you can use in the Noch Grass Master. I also used their fiber mats with green foam attached for vines and bushes. Silflor products were used for things like vines and flowers and also for the green static grass in the cow pasture. In the pasture I applied some of the praire tufts first and the static grass to simulate where cow patties had over fertilized the soil. Silflor introduced a new product for flowers which I utilized around the mountain cafe walking path. They really finished off that small scene.
Electrically speaking there are lights in the buildings. They are small bulbs from Brawa that have been toned down with resistors so they are not so bright. For the power I ran from the main bus to a new bus block under the scene, then feed the wires from there. The new bus was connected to my Central Station using a Viesmann digital control module which was placed on the Bergun Station track plan page. Works like a charm.
Life is much more than that one interest that we immerse ourselves in. However, that one thing we immerse ourselves in does become a conduit for satisfaction in our life which we can achieve in our small modeled worlds. But in the end, we leave it all here.
Just a thought to keep things in perspective.
Decisions are made and progress is made. I
used blue insulation foam for the base. As you
may be aware it is easy to cut, shape and glue.
You can stack it in geo-line shape for forming
hills.
Here you can see my attempt at painting a
backdrop. Not professional but it will do.
You should be able to see the Silflor flowers against the
mountain cafe on the left side of the photo. I thought
they gave a nice affect.
Kibri house used for this scene. Notice the HEKI
grass fiber mat to the right of the house.
Progressive shots of
field barn and its
final
placement.
Over Head photo of scene which details some
of the activity around the cafe and oven.
Outside Oven for baking is from MBZ
Thomas Oswald and it really added some
nice details.
Pasture with soil down and prairie tufts
applied in 1st photo. Second photo is after I
applied Silflor 4mm static grass.
