There are not to many sporting magazines or journals published today that promote the arts through publishing creative sporting writing and visual art. Grays Sporting Journal is doing just that. They are a unique voice in the publishing industry and it makes them more than worth the subscription price. When you pick up Grays you also get to see the artistic Graphic Design work of Wayne Knight, a master of his craft. His innovative and creative designing of the Journal makes it a piece of art as well. Every issue I can’t wait to see how he tweaks the layout to make it sing visually. I consider it a great honor when the editors pick a painting of mine to feature in Grays and I know other artist feel the same way. I also know that Wayne will create a design that brings out the best in my painting. It’s not an easy thing to marry text, image and space in a way that is beautiful, easy to read and look at… Wayne does it every time……
The competition to appear in Grays is a goal for almost every active sporting artist. I remember when I was first starting out … a long time ago now… I would pour over Grays to see and be challenged by the great sporting art I studied within it’s pages. Back then it was only a dream that I would one day see some of my own paintings there.
