Photography, poetry and calligraphy:

A new form of haiga

In this exhibition you will see the beginnings of a broad collaboration which unites the art of photography, poetry and calligraphy: photographer Robert Castagna, poet Raffael de Gruttola and calligrapher Tadashi Kondo.  Haiga has a long tradition in Japan of combining both haiku and painting to create an artform with several dimensions.  In this collaboration you will see Kyoto photographs combined with poetry. However the poetry ultimately will join in with the image, placed within to become an integral part of the artform and hand written in both Japanese and English by Tadashi.  Samples of the full collaboration will be available at the Salon, while the exhibition will simply focus on the first stage of collaboration, the uniting of haiku with the image.
