Here is what I did during the Summer of 2008!

I was on staff for the Las Vegas Fest for Beatles Fans, June 29 - July 1st. I worked with Paul Saltzman and The Beatles in India organization. Great time--as always--seeing Paul, Kenny Pitovsky, DOnovan, Patti Boyd, Mark Hudson, Helaine Witt, and Cathy Sarver. I look forward to next year’s Fest!! Always a great time and another chance to see the Cirque du Soleil LOVE.

I taught at the Bocal Majority Music Camp in Texas on July 16th, giving a masterclasses to two of the 49 bassoonists! This has become one of my favorite activities in the year. The young students are so eager to learn and their teachers--Jennifer Sadoff Auerbach and Michael Jones--do an incredible job throughout the year with them. Bravo to all the great teachers and staff who make this such a success!

The 2008 IDRS Conference was in Provo, UT this summer and I played on three concerts.

    July 22nd, 1 PM - Paul Chihara’s Branches for 2 bassoons and percussion (Scott Pool, bn)

    July 23rd, 2 PM - for 2 bassoons and percussion (Thomas Priest, bn; Don Keipp, perc) and Henri Tomasi’s Le Tombeau de Mireille, originally for oboe, and drum.

    July 24th, 4 PM - Corette Le Phenix for 4 Bassoons and the premiere of my new arrangement,

        Beatles Medley Fantasy for 4 bassoons (Chin Hing Sang, Scott Pool, Erika Chiu -  bsns)

July 31st, I gave a bassoon teaching clinic for 75 Kansas band directors as part of the Senseney Music “Total Band Director Workshop.” Thank you to Senseney Music and Justin Miller of Miller Marketing Co. (PA) for the opportunity to share my knowledge.

Aug 1 & 2 I conducted for the 1964...the Tribute shows in Bass Concert Hall in Ft. Worth.

Those were my musical activities! On July 17th, I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee. Three weeks later, July 7th, I had three stents put into my heart. Although the procedure was a success--painful, but successful--I returned to the emergency room two days later due to chest pain and extremely high BP. Two more days in the hospital!! The next weekend I was off for the three performances at the IDRS.
