MidLIFE CRYSIS

My not-so-secret life. If you read my Musician bio, you’ll learn a little about my percussion background. Well, when The Beatles hit in 1964, I began a double life learning bassoon and drums! In the 70s and 80s, I concentrated on playing bassoon, exclusively...until I learned about the secret lives of two OU School of Music colleagues!!

In 1990, Eldon Matlick (Professor of Horn), Ken Stephenson (Professor of Music Theory) and I hatched an idea of starting a little band. Our early history is documented in a few published articles in The Oklahoman, The Oklahoma Daily, and Sooner Magazine. Click on the latter two and read about us, up until 2003. Since 2003, we have continued with the four-piece lineup.

MidLife Crysis specializes in music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. We play Elvis, Stones, Beatles, The Who, Hendrix, CCR, Guess Who, BTO, Byrds, Animals, Kinks, Yardbirds,...just about anybody who played guitar-driven rock. In 15 year existence, we have performed over 200 songs by a variety of artists. We are especially good for reunions. See below for information on how you can have MidLife Crysis play for your event. The members of the band are: Steve Balduff (lead gtr), James Davis (gtr), Eldon Matlick (bass), and Carl Rath (drums). All members are featured as singers in the band! MidLife Crysis was honored by the Norman (OK) Chamber of Commerce for contributions to the local cultural scene. This is the first time a music ensemble has been honored.

1964...the Tribute will be back at the University of Oklahoma, Feb. 5-6, 2010. Tickets will go on sale in January, 2008!! Mark your calendars now!
