Hands in Clay Studio

Artist Statement
I graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Ceramics) in 1999.  Following my undergraduate, I spent 3 1/2 years working as an artist and art teacher in Australia.  I have been working in functional pottery for the past 10 years and recently moved into slip casting various vessel forms.  I use bamboo brushes to paint underglaze designs onto the vessel surface.  Whilst living in Australia, I was greatly influenced by Asian and Australia art and culture. My designs are also a reflection of my childhood memories growing up in the Great Western Plains of Kansas.  Many of my designs represent the strong connection I have with my family.  Each vessel tells it's own story and is a story of my life experiences and interpretations.
