Commissions

I am now accepting commissioned pieces again. 

PROCEDURE:

The first meeting with the client is to discuss what their wishes are for the painting, pricing, and the medium to be used.  Once all of those areas are agreed  upon, I will typically set up a photo session with the subject or subjects.  Prior to the photo session, clothing, location, and time of day (which is very important to the lighting and mood of the piece) is discussed.  At the photo session/sessions I will take a large number of photos from which to work.  Occasionally, I will need to see the subject again to compare skin tones or for more photos.

A still life of sentimental objects or landscapes that are meaningful to the client are also options for a commissioned piece. As are historical photographs which are the property of the client.

I  will also use client photos on occasion - but I will only do so if it will result in a nice finished piece.  This is an example of using the client’s photo which we did to surprise the parents as a Christmas gift.  Using client photos is also common in situations where the subject is deceased.

Upon completing the painting I will set up an appointment for the client to be presented with the finished painting.  If the client desires, the meeting can be at the frame shop where I will also be happy to consult with the client and framer on frame choices.

PRICING:

After consulting with the client about what they would like I will give a price quote.  The minimum price for a painting or drawing is $500.  A simple head and shoulders piece in pastel begins at $900.00.  Graphite, oil and watercolor pieces may be an option depending on subject matter.  Multiple subjects, complicated backgrounds, or full body pieces are priced higher.   Twenty-five percent of the fee is due before work begins and the remainder is due upon completion.
