A Word From Sam

Have you ever had someone try to “convert” you to their own personal beliefs?
I guess I shouldn’t be shocked by it anymore, but I am constantly being told by people who visit the cafe (which has a faithbased affiliation) that they were surprised that they weren’t told to go to church, or that God didn’t smite them dead for walking through the doors. And guess what... I have to laugh every time. You see, that kind of Bible Thumping is never going to be my thing. This doesn’t discredit the Good Book. In fact, it supports the ideals within it. The entire Law of the Old Testament (such as the 10 Commandments, etc.) was broken down by a guy as “Love God and Love Others.” Even though he was trying to mess with Jesus, he ended up being right. Throughout history lots of things have been “done in the name of Jesus.” For example; the Salem Witch Trials, the Crusades, & Slavery. Each lacked that fundamental truth of love, which by the way is the best evidence of our love for God. Acting like you’re about to “fix” someone so they are “Saved,” without genuine love first, is like trying to button up your shirt starting from the wrong eyelet. You’re gonna end up with half your collar at your chest while the other half covers your ear - and that’s not what you’re going for. It also perpetuates a myth that Christians think they’re better than other people. Truth be told, a person who is truly attempting to be Christ-Like realizes how screwed up they are and that they’re a failure who needs help in the worst way. So they quit trying to act like they’ve got it all together, and they start pursuing God’s plan for their life. If you’ve been told about how you suck by people in the church, I want to apologize. They probably have good intentions, however misguided they may be. If you hate my guts for this little rant of mine, or you want to respond in any way, please hit me up at info@corridorspasadena.com.
Thanks, Sam

Christian, who’s nickname was Cubby, is remembered by his friends as hilarious, always smiling, incredibly caring and very responsible. The Medical Examiner reports that meningitis is to blame. Cubby was an influential personality to say the least. To know him was to love him, with his uniquely blended spirit - the pinnacle of competitive and the epitome of compassionate. His collegiate community of Tuskegee University in Alabama commemorated him with multiple memorial services. The formal funeral was held in his childhood hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. A vigil will be held on December 14 for his friends and family in Pasadena (time & place TBA.) The Ripples of Christian’s kindness will continue to spread as his blessed friends pass along the love of the Lord, which was his sustenance. Keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they attempt to find peace and meaning in this tragedy.
