Sunday School/AWANA

"Train a child in the way he should go..." (Proverbs 22:6)

During our Sunday morning 10:30 service, Cornerstone offers Sunday School for kids in 3 different age groups: Pre-kintergarden, Grades 2-3 and Grades 4-5. Various socials and programs are typically planned throughout the year for Sunday School age kids including a summer Vacation Bible School and Christmas program. For more information or to find out more about serving God in this ministry, contact Tim and Rita Heuss. AWANAs meet every Wednesday night (except during summer break) at Wallace Elementary School, just east of Foxboro at 6510 NW 62nd Avenue. For more information about this program, please contact Mary Kline or Bob Calmer.

Youth Group/CRASH

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." (1 Timothy 4:12)

Cornerstone's Youth Group is divided into two groups: High School age (now known as CRASH) and Junior High. Both meet at Crown Point Community Center in Johnston Wednesday evenings. Sunday evenings are normally small group Bible studies at various homes and a social activity about once a month. Junior high meets Wednesday evenings at Crown Point 7:00 for games and bible study. Both groups usually have monthly activities or outings, i.e. ski trips, concerts, and other day trips. For more information about the youth program, contact Nick and Heather Reed, or visit the CRASH web page.

Missions Team/Women's Missionary Outreach

"...Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15)

To do our part in fulfilling the Lord’s Great Commission, a Missions Team was formed in 2002 to promote the work of world missions. Meeting monthly, the team is responsible for informing, educating, and challenging our church family regarding missions, helping prepare our own missionaries for service, communicating with and promoting prayer for missionaries, and working with Women’s Missionary Outreach. Contact Mark Kline for more information. The Women's Missionary Outreach is a ministry dedicated to informing it's participants of missionary works abroad and to helping our missionaries monitarily and in other practical ways. We meet at least once monthly. "Work days" consist of projects ranging from quilt-making to putting together small prizes for children, all designed to benefit missions work. At WMO prayer and business meetings, we hear from missionaries and pray for them as well as take care of other business, and we hold an annual Women's Missionary Conference. To contact Womens Missionary Outreach, email wmo@cornerstonedm.com.

Greeters Ministry

"And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others..?" (Matthew 5:47)

You know how good it makes you feel to walk into a new place where you are immediately welcomed and made to feel at home, or you're on your second or third visit and are greeted warmly by name. You also probably know how it feels when this doesn't happen. Norb Metzler has a team of "greeters" who simply extend a friendly welcome to people, particularly newcomers, who come into our 10:30 service. We need a few individuals who can be available around 10:00 and during the service to greet people, provide basic information about Cornerstone and possibly usher them to a seat if necessary. The Greeters Ministry is simple, doesn't take a lot of effort or time, however is probably one of the most important ministries in any church. Let Norb know if you can help out.

Assistance/Senior Help Ministry

"...support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus... 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" (Acts 20:35)

Don Elifritz is heading up a ministry geared toward helping those among our congregation who may be elderly, single or immobilized and unable to take care of needs such as a home repair, maintenance, snow shoveling, lawn care, car repair or similar situations. This may involve calling upon individuals from a list of "handy" volunteers who are able to help, or obtaining repair estimates from professionals and assisting with that process. If you're somewhat of a Bob Vela, or have any degree of knowledge of the above tasks and a willingness to help out, contact Lowell, or fill out the form on this page.

Womens' Ministries

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord..." (Colossians 3:23) Cornerstone has many ministries geared for women for the cause of serving God and strengthening unity and fellowship among the women of our church as we serve together. Contact Kristen Dearden if you are interested in serving on one of the following committees.

CARE & CONCERN coordinates bereavement dinners and flowers for funerals, home delivered meals for new parents and the disabled, sending cards of cheer and encouragement to our college students ("College Companions") and also our sick, injured and shut-ins.

COLLEGE COMPANIONS coordinates the linking of men and women of Cornerstone with one of our college students in order to encourage them through correspondence (monthly calls, letters, packages, etc.) and pray for them daily.

COMMUNICATIONS organizes phone calling tree in order to contact all listings in the Cornerstone directory with timely information about meeting cancellations, changes, deaths, etc. Also initiates a prayer chain to pray for specific requests.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH plans and schedules ongoing Bible studies for women.

FOOD & FELLOWSHIP provides refreshments and food preparation for Sunday morning breaks as well as other functions. Also provides accommodations and/or meals for visiting speakers or other special guests of Cornerstone.

NURSERY serves the needs of mothers of small children at Cornerstone by scheduling nursery volunteers and regular clean up of nursery facilities.

SPECIAL EVENTS coordinates social events such as bridal/baby showers for Cornerstone members, "Ladies Time Out" events and the Women's Annual Retreat.

WOMEN'S MISSIONARY OUTREACH (see below)

WOMEN'S MENTORING PROGRAM is based on Titus 2:3-5 instructing the older women to disciple younger women in both one-on-one mentoring and group Bible studies.

Young Moms Group

One Tuesday a month we meet at alternating homes for a book study at 10:00 am. We will also have field-trips or play-dates planned for the remaining Tuesdays. In addition to that, we will meet every other Tuesday evening for a (kid-free!) Bible study at 6:30 pm. Feel free to attend any or all events. Contact Kara O’Byrne or check the Calendar for details.

Other "Behind-the-Scenes" Ministries

The platform ministry is headed up by Rollie Clarkson and Nick Reed and involves organizing, scheduling and implementing most of what makes up the Sunday morning (10:30) service, including music, band practice, speakers, musical instruments and A/V equipment. If you carry a tune, play or chord or feel the need to let loose your inner audiophile, there may be a spot for you.

Communications/Marketing is headed up by Mike Johnson, and involves weekly church bulletin, newsletters, administrating this site, some printed material design, and involvement in advertising and marketing. Anyone with interest in the above, particularly in helping with the bulletin, send Mike an e-mail.

Iowa Bible Camp

A number of children, young people, and adults from Cornerstone attend Iowa Bible Camp the last full week in June each year. Teenagers and adults also attend Iowa Bible Camp's winter retreat the third weekend in January. These events are held on the grounds of the Twin Lakes Christian Center located between Rockwell City and Manson, Iowa. Iowa Bible Camp has provided solid Bible teaching and unmatched recreation opportunities for campers from Cornerstone and similar churches all across Iowa, eastern Nebraska and western Illinois for over 50 years. Cornerstone's Tom Baird is on the board at IBC, so feel free to contact him with questions. You may also visit the camp's web site at www.iowabiblecamp.org.

Willowbrook Bible Camp

Willowbrook is a non-profit Iowa corporation funded and energized with the voluntary and free-will resources of interested Christian groups and individuals. Hosting a number of children's camps throughout the year, Willowbrook's operation is funded with volunteer labor and unsolicited donations. The camp grounds are periodically rented to other groups who we believe will propagate good moral and Christian ethics. The camp has no "stock" provisions nor governing hierarchical organization, however it is maintained by Gary and Lil Jensen, camp managers, under supervision of a board or directors. Willowbrook is located at 4375 NE 38th Street in Des Moines. Volunteer workers can, in most cases, be utilized throughout the year. If you're interested in volunteering at or renting the facilities, or would like more information, visit the Willowbook web site, e-mail the camp or call 515-262-5026.
