What We Believe
We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, and that God has provided it as our all-sufficient guide for salvation and the Christian life. We believe that God is the creator of the universe, and that although He is one, He exists in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is God expressed in human terms, that he is true God and true man, that He was begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, and that he is perfect and sinless in His humanity. We believe that mankind is a fallen creature, and that by his own works he cannot save himself from eternal punishment.
We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for man's sin, and that every person who truly believes on Jesus Christ and by faith rests on His finished work on the cross can have his sins forgiven and be immediately and eternally saved. We believe that all who receive Christ are born of the Holy Spirit, indwelt and energized by Him, and are baptized by Him into the body of Christ, the Church.
We believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and ascended into heaven where He rules as Head of the Church. We believe that Jesus Christ will return for His Church, after which He will come to earth and establish His kingdom.
Our Vision
We want to be a Christ-centered church. We believe that Jesus is Lord of the universe, the Hope of the world, and the Head of His body, the Church. We believe that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life... the only way to know God. We believe that Jesus died on the cross in our place as payment for our sins, and that His resurrection guarantees eternal life to all who trust Him.
We want to be a purpose-driven church, driven by the purposes of the Church laid down by Jesus Christ in the Bible. Two major priorities are the great commandment to love God and our neighbors (Matthew 22:34) and the great commission to preach God's message and make disciples (Matthew 24:18). We intend to carry out these priorities by maintaining a balanced commitment to five MAJOR functions of the Church: worship, evangelism, discipleship, ministry, and fellowship (Acts 2:1-47).
We want to be a grace-filled church. We emphasize the grace, mercy, and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. We want to encourage people and give them hope. We welcome hurting people into a family that will love and accept them in the name of Jesus Christ.
We want people to be motivated by the mercy of God and the love of Christ to dedicate themselves to a life of holy living for the glory of God. " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' " Matthew 22:37-39
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe... the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built... Ephesians 4:11-12
Who are we? What is Cornerstone about? What is ‘the main thing’?
Our purpose is to obey Christ’s commission to go into all the world and make disciples. We are here in central Iowa to multiply congregations of disciples that focus on worship, fellowship, discipleship, service and outreach.
Why are we going there? Why do we do what we do?
We want every individual in our congregation (every generation, old and young) to make a serious commitment to Christ and Cornerstone, to worship, to personal growth and discipleship, to service and outreach. We need this “every member ministry” in order to fulfill God’s Great Commandment and Great Commission.
Where are we going?
We want to become a healthy congregation of 400-500. As we are growing we will be training and discipling those who will eventually establish new congregations. We desire to continue to repeat this exciting process of multiplication until the Lord returns!
We look forward to constructing a new facility that enables our worship, fellowship and discipleship, service and outreach.
CORNERSTONE COMMUNITY CHURCH
History

We are an independent, evangelical community church. While we are not affiliated with any denomination, our roots are in a worldwide fellowship of Christ-centered, Bible-believing churches sometimes referred to as Plymouth Brethren.
