 Shoot with Beckstead

 This past week David Beckstead (one of 2007 Top 10 Wedding Photographers in the WORLD) came to my home to host a small seminar. David is one of the reasons that when I got into photography I actually became a wedding photographer.  All my couples can thank him!

The seminar  was truly amazing.  His way of seeing the world is unique and inspiring.  We went on a live shoot with him. We drove down to Union Station in Worcester and had a wonderful couple models.

Judge for yourself, but I think I learned a thing or two.

Pet Photography  

 I am so amazed that people are still contacting me to do pet photos.  The MSPCA fundraiser ended over 3 weeks ago, and people are still getting photos done!

 Sarah + Sef engagement pictures

 Sarah and Sef (who you'll see again in July) opted to do an engagement session with me.  We had a great day and the light was perfect.    We went to Boston to my favorite shooting spot, the North End.

Deirdre + Carl 

 Deirdre and Carl had a beautiful wedding.  I met them through a referral from my sister and I am so thrilled I was able to be a part of their day.  These two are the sweetest couple and I really felt like I knew them for years.  All the vendors they put together were amazing.  The videographer Matt from Fisher Video Production was amazing.  They are 100% professional aren't rude and really stay out of the way.  I can't say enough good things about them.  Now on to the newleywed pictures.

 Models Wanted

I am looking to find a couple brides to model for a group of photographers May 12.

There will be 15 photographers involved in the shoot, and we are going to head to Worcester, Union Station.

 Miami, Florida Wedding + tv news interview

First, I have some exciting news.  I was interviewed by the Channel 5 Local news for a story on the recession and local small business.  The story will air tonight between 5-6:30 make sure to check it out.

This past week I shot a wedding down in Miami Fl,  Cocunut Grove to be exact.  We stayed at our new condo which is located at the newly renovated Fountainebleua at Miami Beach.

 Weddings, Portraits and Pets

 I can't even begin to tell you all how incrediably busy the last 2 weeks have been for me.  I am so excited to go on a much needed vacation tomorrow!  From April 16-21 I will be out of office in Miami Florida.   I am shooting a wedding at the Woodbine.    I will be checking email, but I am going to be easier to access via the phone.  I am on vacation- so if your request can wait, I'd appreciate it!

Below are shots from all the shoots I did over the weekend.  I had a wedding at St. Ignatius Church at Boston College.  Then we went on to the Veronique Ballroom at the Longwood Towers in Brookline.  Eva and Alisso came over from Italy to have their formal church wedding and ceremony in the states.

Then on Sunday I had 2 family portraits with Tyler and JJ.

Tyler is 6 months old and you met him on my blog about 3 months ago.  He has the very blue eyes, so much so people stopped us to compliment how pretty they were.  

I am out of order here, but I also did JJs 1 year portrait.  We've been watching JJ all year and I am so sad I am done watching him grow.

More Pet Photography  

 I really can't get over how many people are taking up the offer to get their pet portraits done! I am so glad I decided to do this during the slow season.    I had the oppurtunity to shoot a beautiful Chocolate Lab named Brandy.  Hyper when you first meet her, she quickly settled down and smiled for me.

What a beautiful happy dog.

Don't forget my promotion is only running until April 30th!  Get some nice images of your pet (any pet!) before it's too late, and help a great cause.  To date I have raise $350.00 and that's not including the shoots of clients that haven't bought prints yet.    My personal goal was $500.00 and I haven't donated anything either yet.  I just might meet my goal!! I also have 4 more shoots so I am pretty sure I'll do it!   In the back of my head, I'd LOVE to raise $1000.00.  If I hit $500.00 I'll change my goal.

Wedding Season Kickoff  

 Saturday my wedding season kicked off.  It was a smaller wedding and so much fun.  The day was beautiful and the ceremony was wonderful.  The wedding was held in Salem, MA.

 This past week I had the fun task of photographing Mazzie and Scout.  Two Coonhound dogs.  They were so sweet once they warmed up to me.  Mazzie (the black and Brown) is a show dog, and you can see it.  He's beautiful.  Scout is a rescue dog who was more into doing his own thing than having his photos taken.

How to pick a photographer

 I posted a few weeks ago about why photography costs so much.  This post is a follow up post to that.  One of the things you are paying for with a professional is the experience and abiltity to capture images ina creative way.  There are a lot of styles to choose from as well as evaluating the personality of the photographer to make sure they are a good fit for you.

When looking to book a professional a few things to consider are How long have they been shooting and Where did they learn to shoot?   Another thing to evaluate are the images they show.  Are their images in focus?  Are they properly exposed?  Do the colors pop?

I thought I would show what a properly exposed image looks like.  The image on the left is underexposed.   The image on the right is properly exposed.   When looking at photos of a photographer you want to make sure there isn't a gray color cast over the images (like the image to the left). A professional photographer should show images that have a lot of depth and dynamic range to them like the photo on the right.

 ShootStyle Stuff

 I am not sure if I mentioned it, but I am in a group called ShootStyle 

Shootstyle is a group of Boston photographers that consists of Earl Christie, Jamison Wexler, Michelle Turner, Joe Ciarca, Stacey Doyle and Jeff Newcum.  We meet monthly if not more to find new and different things to shoot.   We use the time shooting to better ourselves as photographers and learn more about photography, as a group.  The nice thing about this group is that if we ever need a backup shooter or have an emergency we are all there for each other.  Stacey actually came to my rescue shooting last year when I broke my ankle.  

We have a lot of fun together and always shoot something different   The nice thing is it's a group that I would trust to shoot my own wedding.

 Callie the kitty Cat

 How sweet is this little ball of fur.  These images (besides exposure) have NOT been photoshopped.  Here eyes are really that color.  She is 9 months old and as sweet as can be.  I have a soft spots for kitties.  In a few days I am going to do my kitties portraits, but they hate the camera.  I test all my new gear by taking pictures of them.

 Dog Portraits

 Murphy is quiet possibly the sweetest dog I've ever meet.  It's been so impossible to say how much I love them all.  I am just a softy at heart with those little faces and soft fur.  The unconditional love just warms my heart.
